Underworld may not be the best vampire series, but it’s definitely a good one nonetheless. Having five films in the series is a proof that the film has amassed a strong fan following. Though news was released that the production company is brewing a sixth film on the installment, many got their heart broken when Kate Beckinsale made an announcement that she is not reprising her role as Selene stating, “I wouldn’t return. I’ve done plenty of those.”

While fans are eagerly waiting what’s in store for them in the 6th movie now that they won’t witness Beckinsale’s smoking bad-ass portrayal anymore, let’s take a look back at some of the characters in the Underworld series that have left a strong mark on the heart of the moviegoers.

  1. Selene

Portrayed by: Kate Beckinsale

Film(s): Underworld (2003), Underworld: Evolution (2006), Underworld: Awakening (2012), Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)

The movie revolves around the main hero Selene, a vampire working as a Death Dealer. Her family was slaughtered by Lycans (werewolves) and since then, she made it her life mission to take down their species. She may be an eye candy with a strong and sassy character, but what makes Selene impressive is how she develops as a character. As the movie progresses and new films are released, she develops into a stronger and fiercer character.

  1. Michael Corvin

Portrayed by: Scott Speedman

Film: Underworld (2003), Underworld: Evolution (2006)

We all love an underdog story and Michael is a perfect example for this scenario. He was just a regular guy who got caught into otherworldly conflict and came out having to find out that he’s extraordinary. He discovered that he’s last of an ancient lineage and became the first vampire/Lycan hybrid. This gives him the strength and speed that neither vampire nor Lycan can surpass. Selene fell in love with him and their love bore a child named Eve.

  1. David

Portrayed by: Theo James

Film: Underworld: Awakening (2012), Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)

He was initially introduced as a poor replacement for Michael. Being the son of a Vampire Elder Thomas, David’s character developed in Blood Wars. He showed everyone that he’s perfect for the role of Selene’s ally. Many of the fans are still wishing to have Michael back, but it’s hard not to warm up and love David.

  1. Lena

Portrayed by: Clementine Nicholson

Film: Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)

Lena is a vampire warrior from Nordic Coven and a daughter of the coven’s leader, Vidar. She has one of the most enchanting eyes you probably ever seen. Lena is a mixture of weird and coolness which makes her quite relatable. She’s also a capable warrior who can take down Lycans with her weird super speed abilities and her sword and shield. A lot of fans are crossing their fingers to have her back in the next installment.

  1. Sonja

Portrayed by: Rhona Mitra

Film: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)

It’s quite disheartening to hear that many fans don’t like Sonja, claiming that she’s a poor replacement for Selene. No one could possibly rock a leather outfit better than Kate Beckinsale, but Sonja won’t get left behind by a badass wagon. Her character is such a force to reckon with. For starters, her romance to Lucian sparked the origins of the war and it’s through her death that the war starts.

  1. Viktor

Portrayed by: Bill Nighy

Film: Underworld (2003), Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)

Born sometime in the 4th or early 5th century, Viktor was a former Hungarian general before he achieved the position of being a Vampire Elder. He’s the one to be blamed for the war and everything that’s happened as its aftermath. He disguises himself with his father figure but truthfully, he’s a self-absorbed creature who would do everything to maintain his power. He killed Sonja which started the war, adopted Selene after killing her family, and was killed by Selene in turn. Bill Nighy was perfect for the role of this vampire tyrant; he gave such an amazing performance that many consider his character as one of the most evil villain in the history of films.

  1. Quint Lane

Portrayed by: Kris Holden-Ried

Film: Underworld: Awakening (2012)

Dr. Lane’s son earned the term “super-lycan” thanks to his massive size and strength. Just like any other superheroes, Quint is seemingly immune to silver and has the ability to heal rapidly. He’s someone that you should not mess with; even Selene could not beat him in a combat. He’s a badass and a total death machine that can easily take down any of his opponents.

  1. Semira

Portrayed by: Lara Pulver

Film: Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)

Being one of the leaders of the Eastern Coven, Semira is a fiercely ambitious vampire who’s addicted to power and would do anything to stay powerful. She’s ambitious enough that she doesn’t care who gets in her way in seeking power. No one can make a web of deception better than Semira. It definitely requires skill to be cunning and deceptive just to get what you want.

  1. Marius

Portrayed by: Tobias Menzies

Film: Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)

Marius is a powerful Lycan leader who has evil in all sort of his being. He’s a pretty badass villain despite the fact that he has a pretty flat personality. He killed Michael and took his blood to empower himself. He even nearly beaten Selene to death.

  1. Marcus Corvinus

Portrayed by: Tony Curran

Film: Underworld: Evolution (2006)

One of the three sons of Alexander Corvinus and Helena, Marcus was the first true vampire. He is a pure Vampire Hybrid who attacks using talons on his wings, and also biting enemies on the neck. He also is a master swordsman, as evidenced when he first fought against the Lycans in their first war. His power is said to be stronger than Viktor and Selene. He has superhuman strength, stamina, speed and regenerative healing factor making him a scary opponent.
